Technical Requirements

Network setup and system specifications

Network Requirements

Lightspeed Voice relies on a stable internet connection to maintain high-quality voice calls. Your network must have sufficient bandwidth and proper configuration to ensure reliable call performance.

Bandwidth

Each active call requires approximately 100 Kbps of dedicated bandwidth in both upload and download directions.

Example:

  • 5 simultaneous calls → at least 500 Kbps available bandwidth
  • 10 simultaneous calls → at least 1 Mbps available bandwidth

For best performance, additional bandwidth should be available beyond the minimum requirements.

Quality of Service (QoS)

Quality of Service (QoS) should be enabled on your router or firewall to prioritize voice traffic over other network activity such as downloads or streaming.

Proper QoS configuration helps prevent:

  • Call drops
  • Choppy audio
  • Delays during conversations

Disable SIP ALG

Many routers include a feature called SIP ALG (Application Layer Gateway). This feature often interferes with VoIP traffic and can cause registration or audio issues.

SIP ALG should be disabled on your router or firewall whenever possible.

Firewall Configuration

Your firewall must allow outbound access to Lightspeed Voice services.

The following ports should be open for outbound traffic:

SIP Signaling

  • UDP 5060–5061

RTP Media (Voice Audio)

  • UDP 10000–20000

These ports allow phones and applications to communicate with the Lightspeed Voice network for call setup and audio transmission.

Hardware Recommendations

For the best experience with Lightspeed Voice, business-grade networking equipment is recommended.

Recommended equipment includes:

  • Business-class router or firewall
  • Managed network switch (if multiple phones are used)
  • Quality of Service (QoS) support

Consumer-grade routers may work in small environments but often lack the advanced traffic management needed for VoIP.

Supported Devices

Lightspeed Voice works with several types of devices:

  • Grandstream desk phones
  • Yealink desk phones
  • Polycom desk phones
  • Orbit Desktop App (softphone)
  • LS Orbit Mobile App

These devices connect to the Lightspeed Voice platform through your network and automatically register once properly configured.

Testing Your Network

Before deploying Lightspeed Voice across your organization, it is recommended to verify your network performance.

Your network should have:

  • Stable internet connectivity
  • Low latency and packet loss
  • Adequate bandwidth for expected call volume

If you experience poor call quality, your network configuration or bandwidth availability may need adjustment.
